IE8 "read mail" icon won't go to Outlook Express
I work for an ISP and we have a customer who downloaded IE8 and when she clicks on the "read mail" envelope it tries to make her sign up for a MSN email account instead of taking her to her Outlook Express. Checked her IE Options > Programs and it is defaulted to OE. Cust is using Windows XP. No additional toolbars installed. "Read mail" icon worked fine prior to IE8 upgrade. Thoughts? Suggestions?

This should have been asked in an XP forum as Vista does not support Outlook Express.Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults | Custom + Down Arrow | Select the radio button for Outlook Express. Make OE the default e-mail client: http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx For links in e-mail: http://www.oehelp.com/oelnk.aspx And: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098 Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Optionshttp://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm If you have MS Outlook installed, also see #13: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#13 "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098 Multiple browser windows open when you click on a mailto: link:http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail]

Yea, you can thank Microsoft for that, as the link on their IE 8 issues web site actually took me to this page.... I realized it AFTER I posted. Too bad it didn't take me to the forum's home page so that I could search for answers as I see someone else had the same problem and it was already responded to. As for your first entry....I had already noted that OE was checked as the default. I will send the customer the other links though. Thanks.
